Litmus test

The much awaited, intrigue-preceeding Ekiti elections have come and gone.
Congratulations to the PDP and the people of Ekiti for making their choice.
May the next 4 years bring the dividends of democracy to this acclaimed state of Yoruba scholars!

I want to say bigger congratulations to the INEC boss, Prof Atahiru Jega! Kudos to him for holding an election widely considered to be free and fair.
No snatching of ballot boxes, no violence recorded, no cancellation of polls or allegations of rigging ( yet)!
This is a big step ahead!

Some have ascribed the peaceful conduct of this election to the heavy presence of security personnel; but I also believe that INEC took some extra steps. And this is a laudable action
If the Ekiti election is to serve as a litmus test for the 2015 elections, then I must say that maybe I see a ray of hope.

Fellow electorates, if INEC has stepped up it's game and is trying to ensure that we have a free and fair election in 2015, then we also must rise to the task ahead and get involved in ensuring a successful and peaceful election.

We must not activate the "siddon look" mode; we should ask questions, probe candidates, demand for ideologies of parties, shun sentiments and make INFORMED decisions.
Once again, I say Kudos to Prof JEGA and his team!

  1. Informed decisions? How many Nigerians are informed? How many Nigerians have an idea about how they want this country to look like in the next 4 years? Until every Nigerian can have a picture of what they want this country to look like, then I'm sorry to say, we'll still make out decisions based on who doled out more freebies. Does a small bag of rice and #200 ring a bell?

  2. Informed decision? Hmmmnn that's d ideal but we are far from it my dear. The "Majority" that can make an aspirant win or lose an election aren't empowered to make an informed decision. Mind u am not talking about information. A sweet policy or a good party ideology is useless to a hungry man. To him he is asking, what's d use of a bridge construction when I haven't eaten in 2 days. In an ideal society, a fayose wouldn't have won an election where a Fayemi is but in the present state of the country an omisore will win an election where ogbeni Rauf is o. Even a Jonathan will win 2015 election where a Buhari is (unless APC wakes up from their slumber.) our reality is Jonathan will still be president come may 29th 2015 (painfully so)...

  3. Safeeee, it's like u peeped into my discussion with Toba earlier. The majority don't have the right idea. It's the responsibility of the informed minority to help this majority get informed. If not, Nigeria is going to keep plunging. A friend says, let's educate Iya Risi the pepper seller and Bala the night watchman. I think he is right. Social media and Internet campaigning and canvassing is Ok, but the majority that matter are of social media. It's high time we began a ' one on one evamgelism' of the majority.
